SAMSUNG SDI and Korea East-West Power sign MOU for joint cooperation on global energy projects
The two companies to expand collaboration across the energy sector and proactively respond to changes in the global supply chain
SAMSUNG SDI aims to strengthen its position as a leading energy solutions provider through this partnership
SAMSUNG SDI announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd. to jointly develop and invest in global energy storage system (ESS) and renewable energy projects.

The signing ceremony was held on February 6 at StarPlus Energy (SPE), a SAMSUNG SDI–Stellantis joint venture facility located in Kokomo, Indiana, USA. The event was attended by Heon Joon Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of SAMSUNG SDI Americas, and Yun Jae Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of StarPlus Energy (SPE), as well as Myung Ho Kwon, President and CEO of Korea East-West Power, and Yong Hyun Kim, Senior Managing Director of Business Developing Group at Korea East-West Power.
Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly develop and invest in domestic and overseas energy projects including ESS, while also collaborating on new business models, such as renewable energy-ed projects and grid stabilization projects.
They also plan to deepen cooperation across the energy sector, including jointly implementing Management Service Provider (MSP) project at SAMSUNG SDI’s Ulsan facility.
Building on the agreement, the two companies plan to steadily expand joint business opportunities in the global energy market, broaden the scope of their collaboration, and take a proactive approach to changes in the global supply chain.
The companies emphasized that the agreement is significant as it brings together a leading Korean battery manufacturer and a public power generation company to deliver tangible business results in the global market amid rapidly growing worldwide demand for ESS and renewable energy.
SAMSUNG SDI offers a broad portfolio of ESS products, ranging from battery cells and modules for backup power applications such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and battery backup units (BBU) to its grid-scale ESS solution, the SAMSUNG Battery Box (SBB).
As the only non-Chinese manufacturer of prismatic batteries, SAMSUNG SDI is recognized for its technological competitiveness, driven by strong durability, high energy density, and advanced safety technology designed to prevent thermal propagation (No TP). More recently, the company has further strengthened its leadership in the ESS battery market by securing a series of large-scale supply agreements with major U.S. energy companies.

Korea East-West Power has built extensive expertise in power plant construction and operations through overseas projects in markets including the United States, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. The company has been recognized for expanding business models that integrate power generation infrastructure with energy solutions, supported by Korea’s first power generation–ed ESS deployment and the operation of Management Service Provider (MSP) centers.
“Through our collaboration with Korea East-West Power, a leading public power generation company, we expect to strengthen our global competitiveness in the energy storage system and renewable energy sectors.” said Heon Joon Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of SAMSUNG SDI Americas. “We will further solidify our position as a leading energy solutions provider.”
“By combining the infrastructure of a public power generation company with the advanced technologies of a private-sector partner, we can enhance competitiveness in the global market,” said Myung Ho Kwon, President and CEO of Korea East-West Power. “Building on this agreement, we aim to deliver concrete business results.”
