SAMSUNG SDI said it received two awards for its newest Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system battery product U8A1 and No Thermal Propagation (No TP) technology.
The Smarter E Europe grants awards to innovative products and technologies across five categories of energy storage, e-mobility, photovoltaics, smart energy and outstanding projects.
A total of 14 products and technologies were selected as finalists this year. And SAMSUNG SDI was the sole Korean company that entered the list. It was also the only double winner among other global companies, which received two awards at The Smarter E Award.
This latest recognition further underscores SAMSUNG SDI’s technological leadership in the battery industry. In March, the company received the InterBattery Award at InterBattery 2025, Korea’s largest battery exhibition, for its advancements in high-power cylindrical batteries and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) material technology. Now, its innovative battery technology has also been acknowledged at Europe’s largest energy exhibition.

U8A1, the newest battery for UPS, won the award in the energy storage category. The battery is designed to supply emergency power to AI data centers during outage. It boasts a combination of high performance with maximum safety, solidifying its positions as an optimized solution for AI data centers. The battery also sports a new function that stabilizes quality of power during sudden surge in demand.
The U8A1 battery has improved space efficiency for data center operators as it raises output by more than 40% per rack, compared to previous models. Fewer batteries of U8A1 can respond to demand from AI data centers, decreasing the installation space by 33%. Owing to its long lifespan support, data centers can reduce their operation costs.
No TP won the award in the e-mobility category. No TP is a safety technology that prevents heat from propagating between cells using multiple integrated safety devices, thanks to the company’s proprietary design for the cell structure.
SAMSUNG SDI uses its own program that predicts thermal propagation and designs an optimal structure for prevention of thermal propagation from an early stage of product planning. Based on data, the company adopts the most reliable safety materials in between cells and secures and designates an efficient path for gas release via its venting outlets.

"It is significant that SAMSUNG SDI's battery technology has been recognized at one of Europe's leading energy industry exhibitions," said a SAMSUNG SDI official. "We will continue to penetrate into the European market based on our innovative technology."
The award-winning product and technology are on display at the InterBattery Europe 2025 that kicked off on May 7 for a three-day run in Munich, as part of The Smarter E Europe.
