Environmental conservation activities are an important part of corporate social contribution activities. Each plant of Samsung SDI undertakes various activities to preserve environment. Here go some examples of such activities.

One plant and one river conservation initiative

Each plant of Samsung SDI is assigned with a mission of cleaning one river nearby and conducts environmental conservation activities regularly. Each plant undertakes the activities alone, or with neighboring companies, government, and NGOs. For example, the Ulsan plant began the Sangchun river cleaning campaign regularly and supported an environment pop music concert dedicated to Taewha river.

Environmental technology mentoring for neighboring small-mid companies

This is about technology mentoring about environmental pollution prevention facilities for SMEs sharing the same hydrosphere. For example the Cheonan plant reached out to nearby SMEs, jointly with local government agencies, for environmental technology mentoring.

Environmental Impact monitoring

This is an activity to monitor water quality and air quality around the company premise and come up with ideas for improvement.

Various environmental conservation activities of overseas plants

The Shenzhen plant and the Malaysia plat are active in ‘Eco-park creation and management’. They designate parks nearby and conduct environmental conservation activities for them. And to make cleaner and more beautiful local Communities, the Tianjin plant’s cleaning activityaround Samsung Plaza, the promotion of collecting used batteries, and the Shenzhen plant’s One Company One River program and environmental preservation campaign have been implemented.

Local eco-cluster

In November 11, 2008, the Samsung SDI Cheonan plant celebrated the completion of a steam pipe construction with Cheonan City, which will supply the steam generated from the Cheonan waste incinerator. Utilization of the steam will reduce current energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and related costs for the Cheonan plant, and Cheonan City will reinvest the profit from the steam supply for the welfare of its citizens.

Ecosystem preservation activities with stakeholders

The Cheonan plant is conducting activities such as clearing invasive alien plants and sea wastes of 14 islands three times a year within the jurisdiction of the Geum River Basin Environmental Office, in cooperation with the office, NGOs and partners.
