Julius Plucker, a Germany mathematician and physicist experimented on cathode ray. It was Julius Plucker who discovered the cathode ray for the first time.

Heinrich Geissler, a German used a mercury pump and developed the Geissler tube. This was a successful vacuum tube for the first time and later on Sir William Crookes reorganized it.
