FED (Field Emission Display)

- As a display device having characters of both CRT (picture quality) and PDP (flatness), FED has the
- same structure as that of CRT: electrons released from the Cathode (source of the electron emission
- composed of - side of the Display Device) collide with phosphors and emit light. FED is theoretically
- recognized as a display having 20~30% of cost competitiveness compared to PDP or TFT-LCD, but it
- will take some time for its commercialization.

Electrons are emitted from the luminescence body when voltage is applied to the anode and cathode, and they collide with the phosphor panel to emit visible rays.

Panel Part

- Vacuumed space between the glass of the Cathode and Anode plate- Spacer supports the atmospheric
- pressure
- There are Anode grid on the Anode plate, phosphors, etc
- There are Gate grid, insulation layer, surface Cathode, and Cathode grid for electron release

Circuit Structure

- It is composed of various circuits for Panel grid operation and power supply
- It comprises power part supplying power to each component, image circuit handling image signals,
- allocating signals for each grid, Logic circuit for saving, Logic buffer, XY Driver supplying signals
- to Panel grid.

Operating Mechanism

- FED has numerous surface Cathodes matched with each Pixel, and driven by the Pixel unit
- Electrons emitted from the surface Cathode collide with phosphors to display colors
- As for CRT, image can be displayed through the rapid scanning of electron beams emitted from
- one electron gun

CNT FED

- Large size products a and mass-production can be easily realized through the usage of FED using CNT
- CNT(Carbon Nano Tube), best electron emitter ever, is a cylindrical type material (rolled-up Graphite
- sheet) with the diameter of 10-9 nano meters, and thousands of nano meter length

Micro-tip FED

- FED used as an electron-emitting structure by using semi-conduct process forming Micro-tip
- Difficult to securing mass production caused by the facility technology for large sizes
