- PDP (Plasma Display Panel)
- Applying strong voltage between two electrodes generates gas discharge and ultraviolet rays. The ultraviolet rays at this collision with phosphor and emit light. Plasma means ionized gas during discharge.
- It is a similar mechanism with a fluorescent lamp and a pixel functions as one fluorescent lamp

- Underlying Principle of Samsung PDP
- Plasma display utilizes neon luminescence to display and the luminescence occurs by applying voltage to cathode and anode with gas sealed basically by the front, back glasses and barrier rip. First, neon and xenon gases between two glass substrates are filled in a cell organized with numerous barrier rips. One of three major color phosphors(R, G, B) is coated in the cell and voltage application to electrode installed on the glass substrate induces discharge phenomenon. Then, ultraviolet rays collide with phosphor and light radiates with colors appearing.

When cell selection voltage is applied in the Address electrode and line selection voltage, which selects one line each, is applied in the Y electrode, wall discharge in a dielectric layer of a selected cell is formed. (On/off determination) - - Sustaining
When Sustain voltage is applied to X, Y electrode respectively, only cells where wall discharge is formed
