FED(Field Emission Display) is a self-luminescent display like CRT having superior brightness, contrast, and viewing angle of which applications of the technology are feasible variously regardless of the size of the display, which drew people¡¯s attention and made it be the object of many researches. FED is a flat panel display featuring both advantages of CRT (picture quality) and PDP (flatness) which has been evaluated as a next-generation technology of low price & superior quality.
The potential power of the FED was theoretically presented in 1958, and Spindt manufactured the element by a micro process in 1968. In the late 1990¡¯s companies like Candescent and Pixtech had an exhibition of FED which was manufactured by a quality Micro-tip process, and currently a variety of methods of the FED development besides Micro-tip system has been studied continuously. |
