Samsung SDI has supported special spectacles for about 842 amblyopic students and 600 old men so far since 1996 with the purpose of inspiring academic enthusiasm and encouragement of the amblyopic students of the blind schools across the nation.


It is to support tuition fees for the visually disabled students who entered universities with excellent records in spite of economic difficulties.
With the purpose of helping the visually disabled to adapt themselves to society well and fostering competent human resources, we began to support university entrance tuition fees for total 16 visually disabled students by now 2003 since 1997.
The supported are now performing well in a society as teachers, postgraduates, or music professional in various fields.


The international Seminar on Education and Rehabilitation for the Physically Challenged facilitates self-support and rehabilitation of the blind by providing technological information on blindness. Prominent doctors and specialists at home and abroad have been actively participating in the international seminar..Since the 4th seminar in 1996, till the 8th seminar in 2000, Samsung SDI has sponsored annual seminars in collaboration with the International Foundation for Education and Rehabilitation.

Among the participants of the seminars are Ambassador John W. McDonald, the former secretary-general of the ILO, former Deputy Secretary-general of the UN Dick Thornburg and the President of Goodwill Industries International Fred Grand.


Approximately 1 million Koreans are physically or mentally challenged and 97 percent of them are left without jobs. Among them about 100,000 Koreans are blind. Only 7 percent of the blind have established family ties with people whereas more than 90 percent of orphans and senior citizens have family ties and receive assistance.

Samsung SDI, in cooperation with Good Neighbors International, has been a financial supporter for the blind and encourages them to participate in vocational rehabilitation programs. So far Samsung SDI has donated a total of 480 million won for 790 households until March 2003. Samsung SDI will be further committed to help the blind with love and understanding.
